ABSTRACT
Youth ministry plays a crucial role in the spiritual, social, and personal development of young people within faith-based communities. This study evaluates the effectiveness of youth ministry programs in selected grand assemblies of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Lagos, with a focus on assessing their objectives, relevance, challenges, and impact on youth engagement. Using a mixed-method approach, data were collected from a sample of 398 respondents through structured questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussions. The study explores key areas such as spiritual growth, emotional support, digital engagement, and financial constraints affecting ministry programs. Findings reveal that the youth ministry has well-defined objectives aligned with spiritual and personal development, and churches provide emotional support services to help young people navigate psychological challenges. Digital tools such as live-streamed services, podcasts, and online devotionals are actively used to enhance discipleship and engagement. Additionally, the teachings and activities of the ministry are relevant to contemporary socio-economic and spiritual struggles. However, limited financial resources hinder the ability of the youth ministry to implement impactful programs, highlighting the need for sustainable funding strategies. It was concluded that effectiveness of youth ministry programs significantly impacted church growth as well as personal growth in Lagos State. It was recommended that the church should implement mentorship programs, workshops, and real-life application strategies to ensure that these objectives translate into meaningful impact for young people.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Youth ministry has remained a vital aspect of Christian engagement, rooted in the biblical call to nurture young people in faith and righteousness (Proverbs 22:6; 1 Timothy 4:12). This responsibility is even more pronounced in contemporary times, were rapid societal and technological changes challenge traditional forms of ministry. The Foursquare Gospel Church, known for its evangelical zeal and structured approach to ministry, has sought to engage youths meaningfully, particularly in urban centers like Lagos. This study focuses on the grand assemblies of the church within Lagos, exploring how they navigate the complexities of ministering to youths in a rapidly changing world.
Contemporary youths are growing up in an era characterized by unprecedented technological advancements, globalization, and evolving cultural norms[1]. These factors significantly influence their worldview, relationships, and spiritual engagement. The rise of social media and digital technologies, for instance, has created both opportunities and challenges for youth ministry
