CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The computer has become a tool that is used in one way or the other in virtually all fields of human endeavour. To those who are not very familiar with it or who are not very familiar with it or who have never used it. The computer means different things. Some people who are even seen the computer have a narrows or wrong notion of what it is or what is can do. Middle managers needs to draw from the information to develop subordinate plan necessary for implementing an organization’s strategy.
Furthermore, since creation, there has been constant quest by man to improve on quality of his life and existence. This ever- increasing quest has been necessitated and propelled by simple need to address the challenges posed by his environment. The computer is one of the most spectacular f such inventions. It is a tool specifically made for computer for computable problems.
Besides, the electronic computer was developed in this century and has given birth to a new field of endeavour know as information technology (I.T). In combination with telecommunication devices, the computer is functionally reducing the world to a global electronic village of data and information.
Nevertheless, the increasing volumes of transaction they deal with, banks have full embraced the use f computers to enhance their efficiently.
This project is designed to acquaint the reader with the computer and its usefulness in Banking Industry.
1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS
The Nigerian banks in general have been encountered numerous problems as a result of inefficiency and inadequate system of operation applied in banking services. With the increase of customers in Banks, the aid of an adding machine and computer is needed.
When insufficient failed to meet the requirement wanted, the followings were noticed frequently.
i. Customers complained of spending too much time (ie sometimes before withdrawal or paying in a cheque.
ii. High cost of data processing is one of the basic problems that arias form inefficient and inadequate system.

1.2 PURPOSE OF STUDY
It is important, then that this information be account and on time to be of use. Effective management control requires the “feedback” of the information in time to affect important decisions. To determine the extent to which the objectives of computerization of Nigerian Banks are being achieved. Thus project will also go forward to help future researchers and authors in the areas of study as well as to inform the banks especially the usefulness of computer usage in Banking industry.
1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The primary aim of this study is to research into the usefulness of computer usage in Banking Industry, detect those problems that creates obstacle and causes set back in their operations. It is also to create a new system for efficient, effective and speedy service tot he customers in the
